Freight Train Kills Woman, Drags Car For 4 Blocks In Melrose Park

The man driving the car reportedly drove around the railroad gates before the train hit his car, killing Jocelyn Morales, 21, of Bellwood.

MELROSE PARK, IL — A 21-year-old Bellwood woman is dead and a man injured after the car they were in was hit by a freight train that pushed the car for four blocks in Melrose Park early Friday. The man reportedly drove around the crossing gates blocking the railroad crash. The woman was identified as Jocelyn Morales, 21, of Bellwood, according to ABC 7.

The fatal crash reportedly happened at approximately 2 a.m. near the intersection of Main Street and N. 19th Ave. After the train slammed into the car, it was entangled with the vehicle until it stopped at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and 15th, the Sun-Times reports.

Emergency crews had to pull the woman, who was the man's passenger, from the vehicle after finding her unresponsive. She was rushed to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood and pronounced dead.

The driver was also pulled from the car, but there is no information about his condition.
