GarArt 2015: This Saturday in Forest Park (August 29)

Distinctively Local and Free One Night Only Entertainment - FREE Garage Art Gallery Event

When is a garage not a garage? When it becomes part of GarArt 2015, this Saturday’s free Forest Park neighborhood garage art show. Garage doors are open from 6 to 9 p.m. on August 29, 2015, to celebrate and showcase the work of local artists.

GarArt 2015 promises to be a bigger, better version of last year’s unique neighborhood art show. The “first-ever” “garage art gallery” event” debuted in four adjacent garages with about a dozen artists represented and a broad mix of media on display. The 2014 premiere drew aficionados from all over the area, primarily via word-of-mouth

This year, GarArt boasts ten participating garages – and more artists displaying their work. It takes place on the 1000 block of Marengo and encompasses ten garages in the surrounding neighborhood. At each location, visitors are provided with a map guiding them to the other galleries

“This is a very low-key grass-roots show. Artists will be on hand to share their work with you,” explained GarArt founder Amy Turilli. “This is not a ‘sale’ event per se, but if you talk to the artist you may be able to buy a piece.”

Last year’s GarArt launch combined a block party format with a “wine and cheese” ambience. Participating artists ranged from senior citizens to teens and showcased diverse styles and forms, including sketches, paintings, sculptures, photographs, musical compositions and textiles. This weekend’s event promises even more variety.
