Gas Leak At Holmes Elementary School Resolved, Students Return

Students were prohibited from entering the school after a gas leak was detected.

OAK PARK, IL --- Students who attend Holmes Elementary School in Oak Park walked back to the school late Wednesday morning after it was temporarily closed due to a gas leak that was detected Tuesday afternoon. According to Chris Jasculca, a spokesperson for Oak Park District 97, Nicor Gas and the Oak Park Fire Department investigated the incident and gave students the ok to return to class.

The fire department had temporarily closed the school and students and staff were relocated to Mann School while the leak was under investigation, Jasculca said in an email. Just after 10 a.m., students were reportedly walking back to Holmes Elementary School from Mann School.
