Gastroenterologist Brian Liem, DO, Joins Loyola Medicine

Brian Liem, DO, who treats abdominal pain, reflux, swallowing problems, bowel issues and other gastrointestinal disorders, has joined Loyola Medicine.
Dr. Liem also interprets esophageal manometry studies and performs procedures including colonoscopies and esophagogastroduodenoscopies of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
He sees patients at the Loyola Outpatient Center in Maywood, Illinois.

Dr. Liem said abdominal pain, reflux, swallowing problems, diarrhea and constipation can be debilitating, significantly affecting a patient's diet and how they plan their day.
New medications and treatment approaches are improving patient outcomes. But Dr. Liem said his treatments involve more than prescribing drugs.

"I treat not just the body, but the mind and spirit as well," Dr. Liem said. "This involves listening carefully to a patient's concerns without dismissing them, and letting the patient understand you know what they are going through."
Dr. Liem grew up in Orland Park, Illinois and earned his medical degree from Midwestern University-Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital-Clinton Township in Clinton Charter Township, Michigan. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights, Michigan.
Dr. Liem is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in gastroenterology. He is an assistant professor in the division of gastroenterology in the department of medicine of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
