Halloween In Oak Park: Pumpkin Bowling, Haunted Trolleys, More

The Park District of Oak Park is planning pet trick-or-treating, spooky ice skating and much more this Halloween season.

OAK PARK, IL — If you're looking for fun things to do this Halloween in Oak Park, you're in luck. The Park District of Oak Park has packed its calendar with a slew of eerie events to help families get into the Halloween spirit. From pumpkin bowling and spooky-themed ice skating to haunted trolley rides, here's your guide to Halloween fun in Oak Park.

Take Part In A Halloween Scavenger Hunt

Kids ages 11 to 14 can grab a flashlight and head to Fox Park after dark to forage for candy and other goodies on Oct. 19. The scavenger hunt, which challenges participants with puzzles and other obstacles, kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

Build A Haunted Terrarium

Grownups and their kids four and older can work together to build their own haunted terrariums on Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. the Oak Park Conservatory. Registration is $30 for residents and $45 for non-residents and covers the terrarium, plants, and eerie adornments.

Spooky Ice Skating

Who says you have to wait until winter to ice skate. Dress in your most ghoulish Halloween attire and head to Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex on Oct. 26 for Spooky Skate, a kid-friendly event on set to Halloween music on the complex's skating rink. Kids can also take part in arts and crafts and indulge in some Halloween candy.

Ride A Haunted Trolley

Take a trip back in time with a 1920's-themed haunted trolley tour and murder mystery on Oct. 27. A ticket gets your eats at "Cat's Meow Conservatory" and "Cheney Juice Joint," along with two drink tickets you can redeem at the "Austin Gardens Speakeasy." Entertainment for the Haunted Trolley Tour will be provided by the Murder Mystery Co. and the event begins at 6 p.m.

Pumpkin Bowling

Pumpkin bowling is something you kind of have to see to believe and appreciate. Luckily, you can do both at Barrie sledding hill on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. The event, which is aimed toward adolescents and teens, pits competitors against each other as they hurl pumpkins down the hill and watch the gourds shatter.

"Trick-or-Treat" For Pets

Pets will have their own chance to trick or treat...for pet treats...at Maple Park on Oct. 29 for Tricks, Treats, and Tails. Dress up your doggy in their favorite Halloween duds and get to the park at 2 p.m. to enjoy music, prizes, and a costume contest. This is a ticketed event, so make sure to register your pup in advance.
