Hertz Heist: Cops Find 13 of 15 Stolen Rental Cars

OAK PARK, IL — Police in Oak Park have tracked down 13 of the 15 rental cars that were reported stolen from a Hertz Rent-a-Car in Oak Park Friday. 11 of the stolen vehicles were found throughout Oak Park, Chicago, and Broadview over the weekend and through Monday, police say.

Oak Park Police also clarified that two of the vehicles thought to be stolen were actually out of the store on rent, meaning 13 cars were stolen in total.

The overnight heist was discovered by an employee who came into work at Hertz around 7 a.m. Friday. Police say that the suspects broke a glass door to gain entry to the store. Once inside they allegedly broke a security box and stole the car keys before cutting a lock on the back gate and driving away with 13 cars.
