Illinois Route 171 Closed at Union Pacific Railroad in Maywood
The Union Pacific Railroad will also perform necessary maintenance work on the at-grade crossing.

Illinois Route 171 will be fully closed just south of Lake Street at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing in Maywood beginning April 20 for storm sewer and manhole reconstruction work, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC)’s contractor is performing the work.

The following detour will be posted to direct traffic during this closure:
- Southbound IL 171 traffic will be directed right (west) onto Lake Street, then left (south) on 5th Avenue, then left (east) on Madison Street, and then back to southbound IL 171.
- Northbound IL 171 traffic will be directed left (west) onto Madison Street, then right (north) on 5th Avenue, then right (east) on Lake Street, and then back to Northbound IL 171.
During the closure, the Union Pacific Railroad will also perform necessary maintenance work on the at-grade crossing to improve the surface. The road will be reopened with the new crossing surface by June 1, and the MWRDGC’s overall project is expected to be complete by November.
