Khyber Pass in Oak Park to Celebrate 20 Years

OAK PARK – September 8, 2015 – Downtown Oak Park’s Indian restaurant, Khyber Pass, celebrates 20 years of business on September 16, 2015, and it will rollback the prices for the special anniversary.

Khyber Pass opened in 1995 when Downtown Oak Park was a far different place. According to restaurateur Malik Jawid, Lake Street only had a few of the businesses operating then that make up the bustling scene today. Jawid believes the continual presence of Khyber Pass helped in the revival of the area, and he is honored to be serving such a diverse community.

Khyber Pass has been a Downtown Oak Park institution since opening its doors. Jawid can recognize many of his loyal customers who have been frequenting the restaurant since opening, including the children who have grown up in the two decades. To reward their loyalty, Khyber Pass will offer special promotions during the anniversary.

To celebrate this 20th anniversary, Khyber Pass’s menu will rollback the prices to what they were when the restaurant first opened in 1995. The day will also see a special belly dancing performance during dinner service.

Named after an ancient passage into the Indian subcontinent, Khyber Pass offers Pathan style Indian cooking, featuring vegetarian, tandoori, and kaboob entrees. The entrees are heart-healthy, meeting the guidelines of the American Heart Association. The restaurant uses 100% vegetable oil and no artificial preservatives, like MSG, in its cooking.

The restaurant is located at 1031 Lake Street in Oak Park, Illinois. It is open Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and is open until 10:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
