Present: Commissioners Paul Aeschleman (President); Sandy Lentz (Secretary); Kassie Porecca, David Wick (Treasurer). Executive Director Jan Arnold. Mark Burkland, Attorney. Absent: Victor Guarino.
President Aeschleman opened the meeting at 7:35 pm.
Approval of the Agenda:
The Board approved the agenda.
Visitor/Public Comments:
None.
Consent Agenda – Commissioner Wick
The Commissioners approved the Consent Agenda, which included Cash and Investment Summary and Warrants and Bills for the month of July; Continued Board Meeting Minutes, July 9, 2015, Committee of the Whole Meeting Minutes, July 9, 2015; Annual Park Board Retreat Minutes, July 14, 2015, and Regular Board minutes, July 16, 2015.
Staff Reports:
· A. Executive Director’s Report.
Irrigation of Stevenson Field is currently being done. Access to the field will begin September 12.
Demolition of the fencing will begin this week, followed by removal of soil. Field turf has been ordered.
Ridgeland Ice Rink is closed for 14 days for various maintenance tasks.
Hours for the pool have changed.
Anderson splash pad has been fixed.
Friends of the Oak Park Conservatory will give the 2nd installment of its gift to the park district on September 12.
· B. Updates and Information from Staff – Patti Staley
Customer service began fall registration on August 8. There were 1765 registrations, lower than 2014.
Building and Grounds department is preparing preschool sites. Longfellow is a new site this year.
The Pleasant Home Ice Cream Social was successful.
The Univ. of Illinois at Chicago Pharmacognosy program is donating plants and invited Oak Park to take part. Plants are going in at the Conservatory during August.

Austin Gardens Environmental Educational Center Contract Award Approvals.
The Park Board of Commissioners approved the following twelve contractors and gave authorization for the Executive Director to negotiate the contracts.
· J. Anderson, Inc., Riverside, IL, Excavation and Concrete, amount not to exceed $74,485.00
· The Heartland Construction Group, Chicago, IL, Rough Carpentry, Finish Carpentry, Drywall, and Exterior Metal Siding, amount not to exceed $378,714.00
· Kremer & Davis, Inc., Batavia, IL, Air Barrier, amount not to exceed $19,999.00
· Oostrebaan & Sons Company, Posen, IL, Paint/Stain, amount not to exceed $32,849.00.
· Metalmaster Roofmaster, Inc., McHenry, IL, Roofing, Ballast, Gutters and Downspouts, not to exceed $63,890.00
· Advanced Geothermal Plumbing & Heating, Elgin, IL, HVAC, amount not to exceed $99,850.00
· John R. Gilchrist & Son Plumbing Inc., Oak Park, IL, Plumbing, amount not to exceed $97,500.
· Jasco Electric Corp., McHenry, IL, Electrical, amount not to exceed $195,368.00
· Evans Electric, LLC, Hillside, IL, Photovoltaic System, amount not to exceed $67,445.00.
· Allied Landscaping Corp., Joliet, IL, Landscaping, amount not to exceed $107,670.00.
· Clauss Brothers, Inc., Elgin, IL, Exterior Concrete Flatwork, amount not to exceed $51,160.00.

Bids opened in 2015 using a general contractor approach. In August, in order to save on costs, separate trades were invited to propose bids. Money that was saved will be put aside for contingency funds.
The Park District is looking at the work being done at 1000 Lake (building) to be sure that light isn’t blocked at Austin Gardens. It can be a factor in presentations for the development of the building.

Commissioners’ Comments
Commissioner Wick
He often drives by parks and notices how busy they are. The Gymnastics and Recreation Center is very active with children in attendance.
Commissioner Lenz:
Over 200 people attended the Community Appreciation nights for the Festival Theater. The
educational projects will continue.
She praised the opportunity for college student interns to get production experience.
The Park District has received publicity in the Oak Park Journal.
Commissioner Porreca:
On August 4th, she met with the West Suburban Special Recreation Association Director and received a 3 hour orientation,
President Aeschleman
He attended silent movies at Pleasant Home, which he enjoyed.
He and Jan Arnold attended the villages’ I-ECO meeting, the goal of which is to work on regional sustainability.
