(Chicago, Illinois) January 30, 2018—Gabriela Rodil, an Oak Park-based parachuting CFO, volunteered her time with other participants as they recently visited Gilda’s Club Chicago. Rodil gave a special presentation to discuss the financial hardships that people encounter when faced with mounting medical bills.
Gilda’s Club has a special place in Rodil’s heart, as she has witnessed members of her family affected by cancer. Speaking about financial hardships, Rodil addressed topics such as filing for bankruptcy, how much Americans spend on medical bills and the average costs of cancer treatment with or without health insurance.
Rodil stressed that people need to speak for up for themselves and be knowledgeable about items such as itemized costs on medical bills as well as their own finances.
“You really have to advocate for yourself when it comes to finances because no one will do it for you,” she said. “I chose to speak at Gilda's Club because I care a lot about the community of those affected by cancer, and know firsthand the financial struggles you go through. Finances are hard to navigate as is, when you throw in the emotional stress it becomes harder.”
After her presentation, Rodil generously donated many copies of “Piggy Bank Book,” a financial literacy tool that educates young children on choosing smart money habits that will last a lifetime.
“I really enjoy giving back to the community,” she said. “I want to help others to become in charge of their financial futures, even at a young age. This resource will help families and their children make wise choices with their money such as saving,” she said. “Having financial knowledge is priceless.”
