Love Jazz? Sit in on Professional Jam Sessions Every Sunday!
Ever wonder why jazz musicians jam? Simple! They love to perform - even when they're not working.

And jam sessions give musicians a chance to play with people they’ve never met before, learn new tunes and have a chance to be heard by new audiences.
Of course, jams are great for audience members, too. Since most jams are held in restaurants, you can listen to great music played by talented professionals at no extra cost. You can catch the latest tunes and see as well as hear the interplay among musicians as they improvise.
One of the most entertaining jazz jam sessions in the city is held in Oak Park at the Eastgate Café, 102 Harrison Street. Led by award-winning pianist Doug Lalli, the session is open to all players but since the house band and most of the players sitting in are veteran professionals, the performance level is very high. Sometimes singers join the instrumentalists which have included a harmonica player, a trombonist, and a vibraphonist as well as guitarists, bass players, drummers and pianists.
