Man Accused Of Stabbing Bus Passenger In Eye

Police said the man stabbed a fellow passenger in the Austin neighborhood.

OAK PARK, IL — A man has been charged with a felony count of aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon after police said he stabbed a fellow bus passenger in the eye with a knife. John House, 34, was arrested after the Chicago Police Department released surveillance images of him.

The stabbing occurred at about 4:15 p.m. Feb. 6 in the 300 block of North Cicero Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, police said.

House fell asleep on a 48-year-old man while they were both riding the bus. When the man tried to push House off, he pulled out a knife and stabbed the man in the eyelid, according to police.

The suspect then ran off the bus and boarded another CTA bus, which went south on Cicero Avenue.

The man who was stabbed was taken to an area hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

House was arrested Tuesday in the 3900 block of W. Chicago after he was spotted by officers.

He was scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
