Man Charged With Attempted Murder For 2016 Shooting In Oak Park

The suspect is currently in custody for a fatal shooting in Chicago that took place on the same day.

OAK PARK, IL — A Chicago man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a 2016 drive-by shooting in Oak Park. Police say forensic evidence in the ongoing investigation linked Rasheed Mujkovic, 25, with the shooting.

In a statement, Oak Park Police Chief Anthony Ambrose praised investigators for their work on the case, thanking them for their "never-give-up approach to crime investigation."

Mujkovic is currently in custody in Cook County Jail on charges related to the fatal shooting of a Chicago man in Portage Park. Police say that incident took place on May 28, 2016, the same day as the Oak Park drive-by shooting.

Oak Park Police say that on May 28, 2016, the victim and three friends had just left the CTA blue line station in Oak Park when a sedan approached them. After "exchanging words" with people in the sedan, the victim and his companions continued walking south on Oak Park Ave., police say.

Witnesses told police that the sedan then pulled up to the group and someone fired a single shot from the driver's side window, hitting a Berwyn man in the torso. The man sustained serious injuries, but made a full recovery, police say.
