Maywood Teens, Juvenile Charged In Murder Of Lyft Driver: Cops

Police charged Denaris Mendenhall and Trevon Thomas, both 19, along with a juvenile, all of Maywood in the April murder.

OAK PARK, IL — Two Maywood teens and a juvenile have been charged with fatally shooting a Lyft driver in April. Maywood police arrested Trevon Thomas and Denaris Mendenhall, both 19, along with a 16-year-old boy, in connection with the death of Adekunte M. Adaranijo, of Des Plaines.

Police started looking for suspects after Adaranijo was found slumped in his vehicle near the intersection of Oak St. and 14th Ave. in Maywood in the early morning hours of April 26. He had multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m., Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Police told Sun-Times that Adaranijo was driving for Lyft when "he was lured to the area for a robbery."

The juvenile and Thomas were taken into custody on Nov. 14. Mendenhall was arrested Wednesday, according Sun-Times. All three suspects are being held without bond.
