Oak Park Board Meeting Recap

New firehouse roof, renovated bus shelters and a housing study all discussed.

Couldn't make Monday’s Oak Park Village Board meeting, the one where trustees on Madison Street? Well, there was also a handful other business on the village board's agenda. We've got you covered with a recap:

Uncle Sam at the Bus Stop: Ten new bus shelters will be constructed in different parts of Oak Park with help from the federal government. The village will get $76,000 from the Federal Highway Administration and will kick in $30,500 of its own money to build the refuges from the elements. The estimated cost of the project will be $106,500. Construction is expected to start in the fall, village officials said.

Housing Needs, Trends To Get Studied: Oak Park will partner with four neighboring communities to study the current supply of and future demand for housing and affordable housing in the region. The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning made a presentation at the board meeting on the work it will be conducting. Berwyn, Forest Park, Maywood and Bellwood will join in the effort, which also will examine development that can be done near transit lines in each community. A community meeting to collect information will be conducted this summer.

Main Firehouse Will Get New Roof: The village awarded a $159,900 contract to an Arlington Heights firm that will replace much of the roof at the at 100 N. Euclid Ave. Riddiford Roofing Co., which will do this work, replaced a small portion of the roof in 2009. Funding to do the entire roof was not available, village officials said. Officials said the original fire house roof, added in 1982, had been experiencing significant leaks for several years.
