Oak Park Cop On Leave After Alleged Attack In Chicago

The alleged attack left one victim with a broken leg.

OAK PARK, IL — An Oak Park police officer has been placed on paid leave after he was accused of beating a pair of men outside of a bar in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood on Sept. 29. Officer Dwayne Jones, Chicago police sergeant Eric Elkins and two other men have been named in a lawsuit for their alleged involvement in the attack, according to Wednesday Journal.

The lawsuit, filed by John Sherwood, alleges that Jones and the other men were at Atmosphere, a bar in Andersonville, when Jones and his friends began taking shots and a friend of Jones's fell onto a table where Sherwood was sitting. In the lawsuit, Sherwood claims that the people at his table asked Jones and his friends to leave, which allegedly led to someone punching Sherwood.

According to Wednesday Journal, Sherwood and his friends left the nightclub and were allegedly followed outside by Elkins, Jones, and their friends who allegedly attacked and began punching Sherwood and his friend.
