String Of Bicycle Thefts Reported In Oak Park

Thieves are targeting expensive bikes in Oak Park, police warned.

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park police are warning of recent bicycle thefts in the village. At least four bike thefts were reported in 24 hours Wednesday and Thursday, according to a police summary report. Two of the bicycles were worth more than $700.

The first theft occurred Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Blvd, police said. A suspect cut a bicycle lock and stole an $840 blue Cannondale bike. The same day, another bike theft was reported between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the 1100 block of N. Taylor, police said. A suspect broke into a garage and stole a $750 men's red 7 speed Xtreme folding bicycle.

On Wednesday sometime during overnight hours, a dark grey hybrid $250 bike was stolen from a garage in the 1100 block of S. Euclid, police said.

Then on Thursday, a $400 bike was stolen sometime during the morning or early afternoon from a building's common area in the 100 block of Washington, according to the police summary report.

It's unknown whether any of the bike thefts are connected.
