Oak Park Salt Supply Ready for Winter
Village prepared to shell out more than $300,000 to keep roads clean and clear.

It might be a while before the first snow falls, but Oak Park crews say they'll be prepared to spread the salt around.
Trustees at a recent Oak Park Village Board meeting agreed to spend up to $300,048 for 4,800 tons of rock salt for this winter’s onslaught, the same amount of salt and money spent last year. The procurement is through the state’s joint purchasing program.
Last year's winter was a particularly harsh one, with storms and a massive blizzard — the infamousdumping in late January and early February. Oak Park didn't need to buy an extra salt for that assault, public works officials said.
