Oak Park Seeks Police Chief Search: Village Seeks Public Input

Officials say the survey, which takes a couple minutes, will help them narrow down their pick for police chief.

OAK PARK, IL — As Oak Park works to find a new police chief to replace the recently retired Anthony Ambrose, village officials are reaching out to residents for input. In a press release, officials shared a public survey regarding the village's next police chief in the hopes that villagers will offer their input.

The survey, which will be available online through Sept. 23, asks residents to weigh in on what type of traits they'd like in a police chief. The survey also includes broader questions about public safety issues the incoming chief should be aware of and how best to stay in communication with residents.

Once the surveys are completed, the village will move forward with other steps in their selection process. Once they've narrowed down the field via "a competitive examination, background screening, and reference checks," officials say they'll schedule interviews for a select number of applicants.

This part of the selection process will include residents as well as village officials, members of the police force, and other leaders in the community.

The police chief role was left vacant after former Chief Anthony Ambrose announced his retirement in early August. Deputy Chief LaDon Reynolds will continue to serve as the village's interim police chief until the position is filled.
