Oak Park Stands Ground as Sanctuary City After Remarks from Jeff Sessions

Oak Park is dedicated to staying a sanctuary city in the face of recent remarks by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

OAK PARK, IL – Despite resistance from the Trump administration, the city of Oak Park plans to remain a sanctuary city for immigrants, Chicago Tribune reported. Oak Park doubled down on its promise after Attorney General Jeff Sessions threatened on March 27 to take away law enforcement grants from sanctuary cities throughout the United States.

On February 6, 2017, the village of Oak Park unanimously passed a “Welcoming Ordinance.” The ordinance prevents ICE officials from access to undocumented immigrants without a “valid and properly issued criminal warrant.” Per the ordinance, village officials cannot transfer undocumented immigrants without a criminal warrant either.
