Obama's U.S. Attorney Nominee a Former Oak Park Resident

President Barack Obama on Thursday nominated Zachary Fardon to serve as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, according to a White House press release.

According to the Wednesday Journal, Fardon is a former Oak Park resident.

“Today, I am honored to nominate this highly respected legal professional as a United States Attorney,” Obama said. “Zachary Fardon will be unwavering in his commitment to justice and I am confident he will serve the people of Illinois with excellence.”

Fardon would take the place of Patrick Fitzgerald, who announced last year he would step down from the position he's held since 2001. 

Fardon is a partner at the law firm of Latham & Watkins and currently serves as the Chair of the Litigation Department in their Chicago office, according to the release.

Fardon has served as the First Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of Tennessee from 2003 to 2006 and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois from 1997 to 2003. He began his legal career working as an Assistant Public Defender in the Nashville Metropolitan Public Defender’s Office from 1996 to 1997 and as an associate at the law firm of King & Spalding from 1992 to 1996. He received his J.D. in 1992 from Vanderbilt Law School and his B.A. in 1988 from Vanderbilt University, according to the release.
