The "Trust" Factor with VA Loans If you bought your home with a VA-backed loan, you can generally transfer it into a Living Trust without triggering a "due-on-sale" clause, provided it remains your primary residence. This allows your family to avoid probate—the long, expensive court process of proving ownership after you pass. 2. Protect Your Tax Exemptions Illinois offers significant property tax breaks for disabled veterans. However, these don't always "travel" automatically. If you move your home into a trust, ensure your attorney includes specific language that preserves your right to the homestead and veteran tax exemptions. Also, check if these exemptions are portable for a surviving spouse. 3. Update Your Beneficiaries A common mistake is updating a Will but forgetting the beneficiary forms on life insurance (VGLI) or a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). The Rule: A beneficiary form overrides a Will. If an old beneficiary is still listed on your policy, they will likely receive the payout regardless of what your Will says. 4. Secure Your DD214 In the military, if it isn’t in writing, it didn’t happen. Your family will need your DD214 to access almost every benefit, from burial honors to survivor pensions. Learn what tanka poetry is, how it differs from haiku, and&nbsp;its important place in Japanese culture as the oldest form&nbsp;of Japanese poetry, still widely practiced by citizens at all levels of society. Nancy Matsumoto shares her family history, introducing&nbsp;her grandparents, Tomiko and Ryokuyo Matsumoto, who, in 1960,&nbsp;published a book of tanka poetry written during their WWII-era internment, By the Shore of Lake&nbsp;Michigan, now translated into English. 
Our Monday Enrichment programs, on music, art, literature, science and social sciences, are always free to the public with freewill donations appreciated. This program is part of "A Japanese Themester", funded by a generous grant from the Toshiba International Foundation.

Worldwide Free Comic Book Day Comes to Oak Park with Comics for All Ages!
One Stop comics in Oak Park is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the comic book art form on Saturday, May 2nd. On Free Comic Book Day, over two million comic books will be given away by participating stores, introducing as many people as possible to the wonders of comic books!
“The wide array of comic books being published today ensures that readers of all ages — children, teens, and adults – can find something appropriate that will stir their imaginations,” said Rick Manzella owner of One stop comics.
Now in its twenty fifth year, Free Comic Book Day has proven to be a smashing success, spreading the word that comics are terrific reading. “Even if you have never picked up a comic book, stop into One Stop Comics, with Quantum man creator (Geovannie Cano) signing his comics This may be the best free comic book day ever”
"We at One Stop Comics want to spread the word that comics are alive and well in 2026," Manzella continued. "Comic books and graphic novels are considered hip, hot and smart.” Comic Books have propelled to the front ranks of pop culture, many being adapted into movies.
