Passenger Dies After Fatal SUV Crash In Oak Park: Report

A 30-year-old passenger has now died after police said a driver sped away from a traffic stop, crashing into a car.

OAK PARK, IL — A passenger in a car hit by an SUV earlier this month has died, according to a report. A 25-year-old man was charged with homicide after a crash in Oak Park left one woman dead and her passenger in critical condition, police said.

That passenger, a 30-year-old man from Chicago's Austin neighborhood, died Sunday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

He was identified as Pierre L. Shelton, of the 100 block of North Central Avenue, according to the Tribune.

Kendall R. Harrison, of Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood, was charged with one count of reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, police said.

Harrison's SUV was stopped by an officer on South Boulevard near Humphrey Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. on March 9, police said. As the officer walked up to the vehicle, Harrison sped westbound and ran a red light, police said.

He then crashed into a westbound sedan, according to police. Harrison then jumped out of the SUV and tried to run away, police said, but was caught and taken into custody.

The Oak Park Fire Department took the sedan's driver, a 28-year-old woman, to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she died.

Harrison's next court appearance is scheduled for March 25. He's being held on $800,000 bond.
