Police Arrest One Suspect In August Carjacking

Oak Park Police arrested Devonta Thompson, 20, of Cicero Friday in relation to an August 10 carjacking incident.

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park Police have caught up with one of the suspects responsible for an aggravated carjacking incident in August . The original crime took place in the 1100 block of South Cuyler on August 10. Police arrested Devonta Thompson, 20, of the 2200 block of West Adams. Thompson was stopped in the 3100 block of W. Flournoy Fridaycharged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated vehicular hijacking in connection with the crime.

On August 10 at approximately 3 a.m. three separate vehicles surrounded a white Honda Accord as it was idling on Cuyler Avenue. In a report, police said one pointed a firearm at the driver while still in his own sedan. At the same time, two other suspects approached the driver's side of his car, with one of those two suspects also flashing a gun and demanding that the driver get out of the car.

The offender fled in the victim's Honda with the other three cars following it westbound on Roosevelt.

It's not yet clear what role police believe Thompson had in the carjacking.
