In an effort to discuss ongoing issues in Springfield and listen to constituent concerns, state Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Chicago, joined state Sen. Don Harmon, D-Oak Park, at a town hall meeting Monday at the Austin Branch of the Chicago Public Library. The forum focused on Illinois’ fiscal issues while also highlighting their hopes for better laws and a better Illinois.
“As we continue to navigate our way through the state government shutdown, it’s important that elected officials remain open and accessible to the community,” Lilly said. “It was great to hear from so many neighbors about their concerns regarding the local community and Illinois. Generating dialogue with residents allows me to better represent their concerns in Springfield and serve as a strong advocate for our community.”

This week in Springfield, Lilly joined colleagues on both sides of the aisle to reject a pay raise for state legislators, demanding that the priority should continue to be funding critical programs that seniors, children and veterans rely on. As Illinois continues to operate without a budget for the current fiscal year, many social service agencies and providers have had to close their doors and deny services to the community.
“As a hospital administrator and health care professional, we need to protect funding for those that need it most, not give ourselves a pay raise,” Lilly said.
