River Forest Township Clerk Offers Voter Registration Information

The start of the year often prompts resolutions of one kind or another: shed unwanted pounds, take more time to be with loved ones, get your finances in order.

To that list, there inevitably are some who ought to add this task: register to vote.

If you reside in River Forest and are looking to register to vote, whether in the upcoming spring election or thereafter, you have three ways to do so: by mail, in person and online.

Of those three options, the simplest for many is to go to the Cook County Clerk’s website at www.cookcountyclerk.com, said River Forest Township Clerk Karen Taubman.

“The county’s website has comprehensive information about the election process,” Taubman added. “It really does answer just about any question you may have.”

In the upper-right portion of the website’s home page is a graphic declaring “Register to Vote Here.” Clicking on that image brings up a page that offers detailed step-by-step directions for registering to vote and a host of other activities supported by the county clerk.

This year, the next two election dates in Cook County are the primary election on Feb. 24th and the consolidated election on April 7th. The deadline to become a registered voter in time for River Forest elections is January 27th for the primary election and March 10th for the consolidated election.

“Taking a few minutes today to register will enable you to have a voice in our local governance, as well as in future regional and state-wide races,” said Taubman. “Unfortunately, sometimes people wait until it’s too late to get this done.”

Among other scenarios addressed by the website—or which clerks like Taubman can answer—are voting procedures for those who reside in nursing homes, for those who have moved from one precinct to another within the community, and for those, such as college students, who are away from home on Election Day.

To register to vote online, visit https://ova.elections.il.gov/ and to verify your voter registration, polling place, and to learn more about early voting and mail (absentee) voting, visit www.cookcountyclerk.com/elections.
