Ryan Jacobson, MD, Specialist in Neuromuscular Disorders, Joins Loyola

Ryan Jacobson, MD, of Oak Park, a neurologist who specializes in neuromuscular disorders, has joined Loyola Medicine.

Ryan Jacobson, MD, of Oak Park, a neurologist who specializes in neuromuscular disorders, has joined Loyola Medicine.

Dr. Jacobson treats neurological conditions that affect nerves and muscles, including peripheral neuropathy,
diabetic neuropathy, hereditary neuropathies, autoimmune neuropathies, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and inflammatory muscle conditions such as polymyositis and dermatomyositis.

Dr. Jacobson is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology of Loyola University Chicago Stritch
School of Medicine. He will see patients at Loyola’s main campus in Maywood and at the Loyola Center for Health in Burr Ridge.

Neuromuscular disorders are complex conditions, and patients sometimes can go months or years before being diagnosed correctly, Dr. Jacobson said.

Dr. Jacobson said his treatment philosophy is to be as complete and thorough as possible, beginning with the
patient’s first visit. “Neuromuscular medicine is not a subspecialty that lends itself to ten-minute time slots,” he said.

After earning his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Dr. Jacobson completed a residency in neurology at the University of Michigan, where he was chief resident. He completed a fellowship in neuromuscular medicine at the University of Michigan.
