Widespread Soaking Rain, Up To 2 Inches, To Hit Chicago Area
The heaviest rain could happen during the evening commute on Tuesday.
ILLINOIS — Up to 2 inches of rain is expected Tuesday, and possibly more in some parts of the Chicago area, and the heavier rain is expected ahead of and during the evening commute, according to the National Weather Service.
Widespread soaking rain is expected Tuesday and Tuesday night, the weather service said. There may be localized minor flooding due to the rain, and could be some isolated thunderstorms late Tuesday morning through the evening. However, severe weather is not expected, the weather service said.

Rain will become steadier by midday on Tuesday, with 100 percent chance of rain during the afternoon and early evening hours for the Chicago, Naperville and Waukegan areas, according to the weather service.

AccuWeather also called for rain and said "ponding on streets and highways" could be possible. The private forecaster gave a prediction of 1.12 inches of rain for Chicago, with 10.5 hours of precipitation expected.
Showers will taper off late Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
