See Beehives, Urban Goats, More At Oak Park Earth Fest

OAK PARK, IL — The Oak Park Public Works Center will be filled with eco-friendly vendors, environmental experts, and even urban goats for the 9th Annual Oak Park Earth Fest on April 21. The festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will offer educational opportunities, kid-friendly activities, and food truck eats to keep visitors fueled.

Over 50 groups and vendors will be on hand to share tips and sell items that help nurture an eco-conscious lifestyle. The event will offer lots of free samples in addition to informational materials that residents can use in their homes.

Earth Fest will put a spotlight on urban farming by giving guests a closeup view of insects and animals that include bumblebees. Up on the roof of the Public Works building, experts will give visitors a peek at their beehives and will talk about how these bees help promote ecological conservation.

Little conservationists will have the chance to pet and feed "urban goats," which are often raised in more populous areas to provide milk and cheese for residents. The kid-themed entertainment will also include a bounce house and a popup park courtesy of the village's Parks Department.

Keep an eye out for the library's book bike, which will be on hand to give kids the chance to find books that teach them more about the environment, animals, and nature.

To actively support the environment, guests can donate used crayons, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and old bikes that are still in riding condition to be recycled for reuse.
