Senior Prom Returns To Oak Park Arms On Friday
Forty consecutive years of senior prom were halted because of the pandemic. Senior Citizens will be dancing the night away again on June 16.

It’s Senior Prom time, not only for high schools but at the Oak Park Arms Senior Living Community. Senior Citizens will be dancing the night away at the 41st Seniors’ Senior Prom from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, June 16, in the ballroom of the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave, Oak Park. This will be the first prom since COVID. The public is warmly welcome to attend. Admission is free and RSVP is required.
“Forty consecutive years of prom were halted because of the pandemic,” said Renee Steingard, director resident engagement. “It was a cherished part of our senior community here at the Arms and beyond in the Oak Park River Forest community. We’re so happy to host a senior prom again.”
One of the highlights of the prom is the crowning of the 2023 king and queen who are elected by the residents. A special dance will take place featuring all the kings and queens, past and present.

“Prom is always a hit, and we love bringing people together for music and dancing in our historic ballroom,” Steingard said. “Many people bring children or grandchildren to experience the event. It is very special to see four-year-olds and ninety-year-olds on the dance floor together.”
Live music will be provided by Swing Set, directed by Dave Vieitev. The 18-piece orchestra plays music from 1940s through the 1960s and selections from The Beatles, Steely Dan, and other more contemporary groups.

“We’ll have two soloists with us, and I hope to feature solo instruments,” Vieitev. “It’s great fun to play the old standards, but our audiences seem to love the more modern bands, too.”
