Seniors' Senior Prom at the Oak Park Arms

A different group of seniors will be dancing the night away at the 36th annual Seniors' Senior Prom at the Oak Park Arms on Friday, June 12.

It’s Senior Prom time. Every year sees event venues filled with high school seniors dressed to the nines and enjoying this most special event. Well, it’s not just high school seniors…

A different group of seniors will be dancing the night away at the 36th annual Seniors’ Senior Prom titled, “A Garden Party,” from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 12, at the Oak Park Arms Retirement Community, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The public is warmly welcome to attend and enjoy the dancing.

“Our prom is quite an event,” said Heather Lindstrom, director of marketing for the Oak Park Arms. “This year the room will be decorated with a garden party theme, and the residents, families and the public are warmly welcome. Everyone always has a wonderful time.”

Music is by the Freenotes, an 18-piece orchestra that plays music from 1940s through the 1960s. The Freenotes originated 30 years ago, and the band has been growing ever since. Today’s 18 members range in age from 30 to 70. They perform in blue blazers with red ties.

“We have a repertoire of several hundred songs, all very danceable,” said Ron Chocola, Freenotes manager and trumpet player, “We play at dances, parties and concerts and now at a Senior’s Senior Prom.”

A highlight of the prom is the crowning of the 2015 king and queen who are elected by the residents. A special dance will take place featuring all the kings and queens, past and present.

An additional highlight is the announcement of the 2015 winner of the Oak Park Arms scholarship.

“It’s always a thrill to present the scholarship,” Lindstrom said. “The entire event is so much fun for everyone.”

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

The prom is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. For more information call 708-386-4040 or visit http://www.oakparkarms.com.
