Shriners Unveils New Building In Oak Park Boy's Name

The Alec Cubacungan building was unveiled Tuesday afternoon.

OAK PARK, IL --- Some people who know Alec Cubacungan don't recognize his name, but they recognize his face. The cherubic 15-year-old Oak Park boy is the spokesperson for Shriners Hospitals for Children, so it's likely you've seen him in a national spot. Chicagoans will be seeing Alec Cubacungan's name a lot more often since Shriners Hospitals dedicated a building in his name Tuesday afternoon.

Alec, who attends Oak Park-River Forest High School wants to study sports broadcasting, was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic condition that affects fewer than 20,000 people annually.

The two-story building dedicated in Alec's name features an atrium, a cafe, and an activity mall, adjoins with the main lobby of the Shriner's Hospital at 2211 Oak Park Ave. in Chicago.
