State of the Villages Set for Feb. 22
Annual event, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, also will celebrate the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in Illinois.

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in Illinois and learn how your community is faring during the annual State of the Villages Feb. 22 at the Nineteenth Century Club, 178 Forest Ave., Oak Park.
The annual event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Oak Park and River Forest and benefits its education fund.
Historian Leslie Goddard will "introduce" Grace Wilbur Trout, a politically influential woman from Oak Park who worked tirelessly for women’s suffrage in the Chicago Political League. Trout moved up to the presidency of the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association in 1912. A year later, the Presidential and Municipal Suffrage Bill became law, giving women in the state the right to vote.

The evening also will include a panel discussion with the leaders of Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park. Oak Park Village President David Pope, River Forest President John Rigas and Forest Park Mayor Anthony Calderone are expected to attend.
Swingset will provide jazz music from the 1920s.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $85 each.
