Students From OPRF Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Congratulations to the local students who move on to the next round of the scholarship competition.

OAK PARK, IL — Announcements were recently made for its 2018-19 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists and a total of 13 students from Oak Park-River Forest High School were selected. The semifinalists from Oak Park-River Forest are Aaron Baker, Ev Berger-Wolf, Nathan Devaud, Christopher Hugh, James Kennedy, Kevin Kodama, Merrick Ohata, Anna Schoeny, Ari Schwartz, Ellary Shillington-Bartley, Dana Small, Jack Thomas-Colwell, and Luca Zefran.

The students were picked from more than 1.6 million other high schoolers throughout the U.S. based on their Preliminary SAT (PSAT) scores. Only 16,000 students, or roughly one percent of those eligible, were chosen to move on to the National Merit Scholarship semifinals.

As National Merit semifinalists, these Oak Park-River Forest seniors will be in the running for a total of more than $30 million in scholarships, including the final prize of $2,500 in National Merit Scholarship money, which will be awarded to 2,500 students who make the finals.
