Sunday Feb. 19: Marimbas and more with Nine Worlds Ensemble at Church of Beethoven-Oak Park
Oak Park's casual classical music series welcomes composer Thor Bremer

Church of Beethoven-Oak Park is proud to welcome back Chicago marimba performer and composer Thor Bremer with the Nine Worlds Ensemble on Sunday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. Bremer and his colleagues wowed Church of Beethoven audiences last year with a lush performance full of surprises. The performance will take place at Open Door Theater, 902 S. Ridgeland in Oak Park.
"Having been named Thor, my name carries with it the many rich stories of Norse mythology,” Bremer said. “Yggdrasil, the World Tree, connects the nine worlds in norse mythology. All of the music we're playing is inspired by nature, and played on (mostly) wooden instruments. Our music has an organic quality to the sound, as well as being inspired by music from many cultures around the world. All of these concepts are tied together with the idea of the Nine Worlds of Norse mythology."
Nine Worlds Ensemble (formerly the Bowtime Quintet) is a new approach to chamber music. With backgrounds in classical, jazz, pop, rock, and more, the Nine Worlds players bring a diverse approach to music that enhances their ability to impact their audience. Rather than approaching music from one perspective, the ensemble embodies and embraces multiple perspectives, adding both new dimensions and accessibility.
