Church of Beethoven’s kickoff show for 2016 will feature unusual music next Sunday (Jan. 17).
Lilac 94 is a harp duo out of New York and North Carolina who travel the country performing contemporary and really interesting works for harp. (They’ve got 94 strings in their two harps, which helped them pick the name.)

Christina Brier and Kathryn Sloat met at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and now explore new ways to perform on their instruments, including hitting their soundboards, using mallets and slapping the strings.
They’ll be performing works in which Midwestern cities including St. Louis; Tiffin, Ohio and Ann Arbor, Michigan, are captured in sound by composers Daniel Morel and Bret Bohman.

The concert takes place at Open Door Theater, 902 S. Ridgeland Ave., starts at 10:30 a.m. and costs $10/ $5 for kids.
