SUV Fleeing Traffic Stop Kills Another Driver In Oak Park: Cops

Police said the SUV took off during a traffic stop, and struck another vehicle after running a red light.

OAK PARK, IL — A driver was killed in a crash Saturday after an SUV fled a traffic stop, Oak Park police said. The SUV ran a red light and struck a sedan, according to police. A passenger in the sedan was critically injured.

The SUV was stopped by an officer on South Boulevard near Humphrey Avenue just before 10:30 p.m., police said. As the officer walked up to the vehicle, it sped westbound and ran the red light, crashing into the westbound sedan, according to police.

The driver of the SUV then jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away, but was caught and taken into custody, police said.

The Oak Park Fire Department took the sedan's driver and passenger to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where the driver died. The passenger suffered multiple fractures and was in critical condition.
