Despite an order from the Village of Oak Park to vacate the building by Aug. 10, Tasty Dog continues to sling Chicago-style hot dogs, with the restaurant marquee defiantly declaring they’re still open for business.

The Tasty Dog building at 708 Lake St. is owned by the village, and the restaurant’s owners reportedly owe more than $40,000 in unpaid rent and penalty fees.

A Cook County judge set the date for the eviction trial date on Aug. 24, according to the Chicago Tribune. The village and Tasty Dog’s owners can use the next two weeks to try to reach a settlement before the trial date.

Oak Park residents and Tasty Dog fans took to social media last week to document what may have been their final visits to the neighborhood staple.
