Toy Gun Falls Apart, Foils Robbery, Thieves Still Steal Lollipops

Three teens attempted to rob a business in the 1100 block of S. Euclid, Oak Park, but were thwarted when their fake gun fell apart.

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park Police are looking for three teens who attempted to rob a store with a toy gun, but fled when the gun fell apart. Police say the incident took place in the 1100 block of S. Euclid at approximately 5:10 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim told police that three teens entered the store and one of the teens approached the counter with what appeared to be a small black handgun and demanded cash. The suspect then accidentally dropped the handgun onto the counter and it "fell apart into small plastic pieces," police say.

The employee realized it was a toy gun and told the teens to leave. According to police, the thieves then grabbed five Dum Dum lollipops valued at approximately $2 before fleeing northbound on Euclid.

The first offender was described as a black female between 15 and 19 years old, standing roughly 5'6" tall. She was last seen wearing a red and black jacket with blue jeans and carrying a black backpack. The second offender was described as a black female between 15 and 19 years old, standing roughly 5'9" tall and wearing a white coat. The third offender was described as a black female between the ages of 15 and 19 year old, but no further description was provided.
