Trials Begin in Bali for Couple Charged in Oak Park Woman's Murder

An American man and woman are charged with the premeditated murder of the woman's mother.

The trials of Heather Mack, 19, and her boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, 21, began Jan. 14 in Bali, Indonesia, for the murder of Sheila von Wiese-Mack of Oak Park.

The American couple is charged with the premeditated murder of Mack’s mother, and their separate trials are taking place in the Denpasar District Court on Bali, according to the Associated Press.

Von Wiese-Mack’s body was found Aug. 12 in a suitcase in the truck of a taxi outside the St. Regis Bali Resort, where Mack, von Wiese-Mack and Schaefer were staying, the Associated Press reported.
