Trinity High Seniors Awarded $500K In Scholarships

RIVER FOREST, IL — After a rigorous selection process, Trinity High School has announced that three seniors from the class of 2019 have been awarded significant scholarships through two prestigious college access programs. The students were also granted early admission into their top choices.

Karime Sanchez '19 (St. Francis of Rome) was selected for early admission and a full scholarship to Columbia University in New York through QuestBridge National College Match. Valued at over $200,000, the four-year scholarship will allow Sanchez to attend Columbia University, her top choice, with all college expenses covered.

QuestBridge is a national program that connects high-achieving students with demonstrated financial need with full scholarships to some of the nation’s top colleges and universities. Out of over 16,248 applicants, Sanchez was one of 1,044 from across the United States to have been selected as this year’s College Match Scholarship Recipients.

Sanchez has been an active member of the Trinity community. She is a full-IB diploma candidate, Madonna Scholar, member of the Varsity Tennis team, member of Class Counsel, serves as a Mazzuchelli Mentor, Ambassador, Officer for Trinity’s Art and Design (TAD) Club and serves on the Opportunity Knocks Junior Board.

Sanchez thanked Trinity for the community it has provided and credits the support she received with helping her grow into the person she is today, with so many ambitions for the future. Her goal is to be a lawyer after pursuing a double major in political science and history at Columbia.

Hannah Gonzalez '19 (Frances Xavier Warde) and Princeanna Gibson ‘19 (Percy Julian Middle School) were also selected for early admission and full-tuition scholarships valued at over $150,000 through the Posse Foundation.

Gonzalez will attend Connecticut College in New London, CT where she will pursue her interests in international relations, history, political science, and government with all tuition expenses covered. Gonzalez has also been named a semi-finalist for the renowned Gates Foundation Scholarship. She has been deeply involved in the Trinity community.

Gonzalez is a full-IB diploma candidate, lifelong Girl Scout achieving the highest rank of Ambassador and earning the prestigious Silver Award, and is an officer of the Students Aligned for Equity & Empowerment (SAFEE) Club. She is one of 10 students from the Chicagoland area to attend Connecticut College next fall through the Posse Foundation.

Gibson will attend Pomona College in Claremont, California which has an acceptance rate of under 10%. Valued at over $150,000, this four-year scholarship will allow Gibson to pursue her ambition to study medicine, with all tuition expenses covered.

A 2015 graduate of Percy Julian Middle School in Oak Park, Gibson has been heavily involved during her years at Trinity. She is a full-IB diploma candidate, Madonna Scholar, Holy Family Scholar, a member of Trinity’s Basketball and Track & Field teams, has served as an Ambassador, and participates in several student clubs while also holding a job outside of school.

Both Gibson and Gonzalez credit Trinity in helping them reach their highest potential.

The Posse Foundation is a national program committed to expanding college opportunities for young leaders from diverse backgrounds by identifying and recruiting students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential. The foundation extends to these students the opportunity to pursue personal and academic excellence at some of the nation’s top colleges and universities, and places them in supportive, multicultural teams – Posses – of 10 students.
