Tritonysia Play Festival Returns to Triton College April 27

The popular Tritonysia Play Festival returns to Triton College later this month, featuring 10 new original short plays.

River Grove, Ill. - The popular Tritonysia Play Festival returns to Triton College later this month, featuring 10 new original short plays written by Triton College students, faculty and community members.

The Tritonysia is inspired by the ancient Greek festival, the Dionysia, which honored the god Dionysus in many ways, including with a contest of stage plays. The festival, now in its second year, was created by Triton College Visual, Performing and Communication Arts Department faculty member and Chicago theatre veteran Sommer Austin.

Highlights of the festival include NO APOLOGIES, written by Karen McNichols and directed by Laura Lewis-Barr, a powerful musical monologue exploring one woman’s journey to self-acceptance by challenging the last acceptable stereotype.

BLINDING, written by Luke Polanczyk and directed by Bonnie Rose Phillips, takes you inside a bunker primed for attack – where you’ll experience the gut wrenching decision forced upon a young woman.

In TRAIN RIDE, written by Kim Reed and directed by Austin and Mary Berrum, you’ll travel east from Los Angeles with two men desperately trying to outrun their past.
