Here are the top stories in Oak Park-River Forest today:
1. Oak Park's ban on 24-hour gas stations will stand after a Cook County judge ruling, the Wednesday Journal reports. A group of seven station owners filed a lawsuit last fall, claiming the ordinance "was unconstitutional" and "violated their property rights." The ban was put in place to reduce overnight crime at area gas stations. (Wednesday Journal)
2. Last week the Illinois Senate, led by Sen. Don Harmon of Oak Park, passed a ban on "deceptive marketing" of firearms. "This is to protect consumers and prevent firearms companies from marketing to children and promoting illegal militia activities," Harmon said. "It also ensures that firearms manufacturers are not shielded from liability when their actions compromise public safety." (State)
3. The Oak Park Department of Public Health will offer free Naloxone training Thursday at Village Hall. Attendees will "receive education on the proper use of Naloxone and what to do when they come into contact with someone who is experiencing an opioid overdose." Five Naloxone kits were installed in Oak Park this week. (VOP)
4. The River Forest Township Assessor will host a presentation tonight to "help residents understand property assessments and the appeal process." The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the River Forest Community Center. (VRF)
