Oak Park Receives $400K Grant To Revamp Stevenson Park
The park's current design was built in 1965.

OAK PARK, IL -- Stevenson Park has been a beloved outdoor space in Oak Park since 1916 and in that time it's gone through a number of changes. The train-themed park at 49 Lake St. will soon undergo a major revamp because the park district was just awarded a $400,000 grant to make renovations.
Stevenson Park is one of 87 parks throughout Illinois to receive a grant as part of an ongoing project helmed by the Illinois Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Program, Sen. Don Harmon (D-Oak Park) said in a press release. Harmon called Oak Park's green spaces a "wonderful resource, accessible to everyone" and said he was "proud of all the vibrant park districts" in around the village.
Stevenson Park, which is bordered by a set of CTA tracks, currently features a kid-sized play train, a 12,000 square foot skate park, and three basketball half-courts. The park's current design was built in 1965 and the space was leased by the park district from the village in 2006.
