Walther Christian Academy Welcomes Military Alumni

School's First Annual Veterans Day Chapel Honors Graduates Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice

Walther Christian Academy students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered to commemorate Veteran’s Day and to thank those who have served our country and have protected our freedom. The first annual Veteran’s Day Chapel Service was led by Rear Admiral of the Navy Rev. Dr. Daniel L. Gard, who is President of Concordia University Chicago, an educational partner with Walther.

A moment of silence was held for two Walther alumni who made the ultimate sacrifice. Illinois Army National Guard Sergeant Joshua Harris ’06, from Forest Park, was killed in action in Afghanistan on September 17, 2008. U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Steven Balcer ’74 of Addison died in a March 1981 military plane crash.

Military alumni in attendance included Paul Grotelueschen ’77 (retired USAF), and Army veterans Richard Duzinskas ‘03 and Ted Roberson ’08. Long-time Walther coach and retired faculty member, Warren Hoger, was also present.
