Want to Raise Chickens? River Forest Might Permit It

The River Forest Village Board is mulling over the prospect of permitting residents to keep bees, chickens and other undomesticated animals.

RIVER FOREST, IL — River Forest residents may soon have a chance to raise their own chickens and honeybees in their own backyards. At a recent village board meeting, members discussed the possibility of allowing undomesticated animals to be raised in residential zoning areas.

According to Chicago Tribune, River Forest currently does not allow residents to raise animals that are not domesticated. Despite this, many residents keep chickens and other such animals in their yards. As a result, board members want to decide whether or not this is something that the village can accommodate.

Some board members and residents hope the ban will stay in place due to potential noise and health issues. Those who support the idea of letting River Forest residents keep non-domesticated animals propose doing so with a special permit or with a total overhaul to the village code, Chicago Tribune reported.
