5 Sandburg students named National Merit Semifinalists

Places them among top 0.5% of high school students in country

Seniors Jake Marshall, Zachary Marshall, Olivia Paraschos, Yaseen Mozaffar, and Harsh Khilwani were named as Semifinalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 1.6 million students in some 22,000 high schools enter the National Merit Scholarship competition annually when they take the PSAT/NMSQT which measures critical reading ability, mathematics problem solving, and writing ability. Semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants in each state and represent the top 0.5% of the state’s seniors. These five seniors now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for Merit Scholarships to be awarded next Spring.
