A Delivery Service Meets Orland's Various Needs

Whether its a bottle of nail polish or your weekly grocery list, Toyourdoorfast.com will deliver it.

Have you ever forgot the salad dressing as the party guests rang your doorbell?  Or was running late for work on your day to bring coffee and donuts?  Did you want to go back out to pick up your dry cleaning but decided to preserve your gas?

There’s a delivery service in town that just may have a solution for you.  Celebrating its first year in Orland Park, Toyourdoorfast.com will pick up and deliver anything you need to any place you need it. No order is too big or too small, said Jeff Smith, owner of the delivery service.

“If you want one 20-ounce Mountain Dew, we will go and get you one 20-ounce Mountain Dew,” Smith said.

The business idea came to Smith and his wife Katie in 2008 while they worked as delivery drivers for a Domino’s Pizza in Bourbonnais.

“People would call Domino’s and ask the driver to stop other places and get things for them,” Smith said. “So we said 'well heck, why don’t we stop doing Domino’s and deliver everything else?'”

The couple made flyers and went door to door in their community.

“It was hard in the beginning,” Smith said “But then it eventually took off.”

Four weeks after starting the company, local restaurants noticed the frequency Toyourdoorfast drivers were coming to pick up orders and formed a partnership with them.

While drivers have picked up prescriptions, dry cleaning, shoes, stamps and “literally anything you can think of,” they’re mainly called to pick up restaurant food and groceries.

“Our clientele is all over the map,” Smith said. “Originally we thought it would be mostly elderly customers but during the summer it’s all high school kids. I don’t know why. Maybe because they’re parents are at work and they don’t have cars.”

Both not having transportation and having transportation have proven to be beneficial to the company.

“I definitely think the gas prices have contributed to our success,” Smith said.  “We only charge $5 for the delivery, so it’s almost cheaper to have us do it then to take your own car and do it yourself.”

The delivery charge remains the same no matter how many items are ordered.  Customers call the Bourbonnais-based call center and place their order.  Drivers pay for the items and deliver them with the receipt to the customer.  The $5 delivery charge is stamped on the receipt and the customer reimburses the driver.  As of now, there are only cash transactions but the Smiths are working to change that.

The company has no minimum order requirements. Drivers have picked up and delivered single items like laundry detergent, wrapping paper with a card and a Burger King meal, as well as a host of items from local grocery stores. Most items are usually delivered within 30 minutes.

“There’s nothing we won’t pick up for a customer,” Smith said. “If you want us to move your house, we’ll do it.”

The company plans to have a call center in Orland Park within the year and is looking forward to growing and meeting their customers’ needs.
