Alleged Dealer Had Cannabis, Cocaine Capsules in Apartment: Prosecutor

Police said man claimed he was selling marijuana to help support family, did not know coke was in safe.

ORLAND HILLS, IL -- Orland Hill police raided an apartment building where they found clear capsules of white powder and cannabis packaged for sale, prosecutors said.

Canal McGee, 37, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a possession with intent to deliver. Police executed a search warrant around 4 a.m. Aug. 31 in the 9300 block of Hunter, Orland Hills.

The prosecutor said police found 27 grams of cannabis packaged for sale. Next to the cannabis were three scales, assorted size baggies and $260 cash. Police also seized a safe with 3.5 grams of cocaine contained in capsules, and a handwritten ledger.

McGee allegedly admitted to selling marijuana from the apartment over the past six years to help support his family. He claimed not to know there was cocaine in the safe.

The prosecutor said McGee has previous convictions in 2002 for manufacture and delivery of cannabis, and unlawful use of a weapon in 1999.

Bail was set at $100,000. McGee’s next court hearing is Sept. 23 in Bridgeview.
