ORLAND PARK, IL — The son of an Orland Park man found slain inside his home Wednesday has been charged with first degree murder, Orland Park police said Friday.
Samir Kassem, 77, was found dead inside the residence in the 14100 block of Concord Drive Wednesday evening, police said. Kassem died of multiple injuries from an assault and his death was ruled a homicide, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.
During the initial investigation, police quickly identified Kassem's son, Ibrahim Kassem, 46, as a person of interest. Ibrahim was located and taken into custody without incident. He was reported as in custody on Thursday afternoon.
With the assistance of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, investigators gathered evidence linking Ibrahim Kassem to his father's slaying, police said Friday.
On Friday, Orland Park police announced that Ibrahim Kassem has been charged with first-degree murder.
Ibrahim Kassem will be transported to first appearance court at Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Saturday, May 2.
